Governor Appreciates LPSK in Completing Compensation for Terrorism Victims in Jakarta

Jakarta Governor, Anies Baswedan attended the handing over of compensation to 46 victims of past terrorism crimes in Jakarta together with the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK), at Jakarta City Hall, on Tuesday (2/22).

The compensation itself was handed over by the Governor together with LPSK Chairman, Hasto Atmojo Suroyo accompanied by LPSK Vice Chairman, Livia Istania DF Iskandar; Representatives of the National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT); PT Pegadaian leaders; and Heads of Bank BNI Cipayung Branch offices.
At that time, the Governor was appreciating the role of LPSK which had fulfilled its commitment and responsibility in the form of compensation to the victims of terrorism.

He said that no matter how big the amount of compensation was, it would never be able to replace the grief of loss faced by the victims. Thereby, solidarity is needed, so Jakarta is directly involved in supporting the efforts of LPSK.
"In Jakarta for instance, anyone who experiences any kind of violence, we will handle it 100%, we will pay for it without asking for their ID card status, the important thing is that they are Indonesian citizens and are in Jakarta. If we experience violence, we will take full responsibility," he explained.
On the other hand, he stated his commitment to protect the residents of Jakarta to get protection from the state.
"Through LPSK, this is a form of our efforts to prevent the emergence of new events. We would like to extend our greetings to the families who were absent today. Once again we are ready to support and hopefully, we can rise together, as the state is here to protect all its residents," he concluded.
As for the information, the total amount of compensation handed over to 46 victims was Rp 7.43 billion. The 46 recipients were direct victims or heirs of the deceased, consisting of 9 heirs of the deceased, 11 seriously injured, 23 moderately injured, and 3 lightly injured.
They were victims of the Bali Bombings I and II, the terrorism incident at the Australian Embassy, the terrorist incident in Gebang Rejo Poso, the Kampung Melayu bombing, the JW Marriot bombing, the attack with sharp weapons at the Falatehan Mosque, the shooting of a member of the Lawanga Poso National Police, the Thamrin bombing incident, the shootout incident with the Noordin M. Top group in Surakarta, the terrorism incident at the Bethel Injil Sepenuh Kepunton Solo Church, and the Utan Kayu book bombing.
Aside that, the Jakarta administration had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Victim Witness Protection Agency (LPSK) number 30/2021 and NK-009/1.3.4.HMKS/LPSK/12/2021 dated December 10, 2021, regarding the Protection of Witnesses and Victims, with the aim of:
a). Realization of mechanisms and procedures for cooperation in efforts to provide services for the fulfillment of the rights of Witnesses and Victims;
b). Availability of human resources, facilities, and infrastructure to improve service effectiveness in fulfilling the rights of Witnesses and Victims; and
c). Realization of improvement in the protection of Witness and Victim services
